Thanks for testing MatchMeAMovie

You're one of the first people to use it. Here's how to get going in about 15 minutes – then, whenever you're ready, tell us how it went at the bottom of this page.

Getting started

  1. Create your account at matchmeamovie.com, and confirm your email (check your junk folder if it's not there).
  2. Put your genres in order, favourites first – one list for films and one for TV. Preferences › Genres This is the first thing the engine learns about you.
  3. Choose your streaming services, so every pick is something you can actually watch. Preferences › Streaming services
  4. Pick a stickeroptional – click your picture at the top of Preferences and choose one. It's just for fun, and it's what your partner sees in Movie Night.
  5. Calibrate. Rate films you've seen. Calibrate The more you rate, the better your matches get. Your Clapper Score, at the top of your account menu (top right), shows how well we know your taste – watch it climb as you rate.
  6. Play with For You. This is how you find things to watch. For You Open Browse everything at the top for the Fan Faves shelves – Heists, Westerns and more. Then try the Filters (on the left, or the Filters button on a phone): where to watch, era, genre and mood. Under Genres, Snooze a genre for a while hides one you're not in the mood for. Change a few and watch how your picks narrow.
  7. Watch something it picked for you – then come back and rate it.

Get the TV app

While we're testing, you'll get an invitation by email: from Amazon for Fire TV, or a Google Play link for Google TV. Follow it to install the app, open it, and sign in by scanning the code on screen with your phone.

Fire TVFire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube, and TVs with Fire TV built in – Amazon Fire TV, Insignia, Toshiba, and the Fire TV models from Hisense and Panasonic.
Google TV and Android TVGoogle TV Streamer and Chromecast with Google TV, and TVs with it built in – Sony, TCL, Philips, Sharp, and the Google TV models from Hisense.
Not built inSamsung, LG, Apple TV, Roku and Vizio run their own systems, so the app isn't on them. A Fire TV Stick or Google TV Streamer plugged into the TV works on any of them.

Not seeing picks you like?

Try any of these – one, two or all three, in any order:

Reorder your genresMove the ones you love to the top. Preferences › Genres
Match the EngineThe button under each genre list shows your order beside what your ratings say you like, and can line them up. Preferences › Genres
Adjust the Tuning EngineShape how your picks are chosen. Tuning Engine
After any change, Calibrate again. A short round helps the engine catch up with what you've changed. Calibrate

Notifications

Waiting for a film? On its More info card, set up a notification for when it's in cinemas, can be watched at home, reaches your services, or is free. They come by email, or as notifications on your phone or computer if you allow them. See them all in Preferences › Notifications.

Movie Night

Settling down for a movie night too often means more time searching for something to watch than actually watching. Movie Night fixes that.

  1. Link with your partner in Preferences (once only).
  2. Add films as you browse on your phone, iPad or computer. Wherever you see a film – For You, your Watchlist, a film's page – tap the popcorn and it's added to Movie Night.
  3. Open Movie Night and set a date if you like.
  4. Each choose up to five and put them in the order you'd most like to watch them.
  5. Lock them in. Your partner is notified.
  6. Once you've both locked in, MatchMe works out the best choice for you both – and reveals your winner.

Every service, in one place

Ever wondered what's on Netflix right now? Then Prime – and had to switch apps to find out? Pick any one service and browse it here instead. MatchMe puts its thousands of films and shows in order for your taste, so the best of it for you comes first.

See what's onChoose one of your services and browse just that one, best matches first. Switch to the next in a tap.
Thinking of adding one?Check a service out before you sign up: pick it and see what it would have for you.
Where to find itOn the website: For You › Filters › Where to watch, or Explore another service. On the TV, choose a service from the menu.
Good to know: on the website, Watch takes you straight to the film. In the TV app, Watch always opens the right streaming app, but for some services it opens the app's home screen rather than the film – it tells you what to search for. We're working with our partners on direct links, so in the TV app every film opens straight to its page, every time.
