When to change your genre order, and when to leave it
Reorder, Match the Engine, or leave it alone? A quick guide to getting it right.
Your genre order describes your long-term taste. Changing it retrains the engine, so it's worth knowing when that helps and when another tool does the job better.
Leave your order alone when...
- You're in a different mood tonight. Use the Mood and Genres filters under Filters & Sorting ▾ on For You instead. They change what you see right now without touching your profile.
- You're tired of seeing the same genres. Try the Variety slider or the Loosen my genre priority preset in the Tuning Engine.
- You've had a few bad picks. Rate them low or press Not interested. The engine learns from that directly.
- You want a break from a genre. Snooze it on For You rather than burying it.
Change it when...
- Your taste has genuinely shifted over months, not just this week.
- You set it in a hurry when you joined, and it doesn't really reflect you.
- The engine's view and yours disagree, and you agree with the engine.
Match the Engine, or keep yours?
Match the Engine reorders your list to match how the engine actually ranks your genres, from your order plus everything you've rated. Nothing saves until you confirm, so it's safe to look.
- If the new order looks right to you, confirm it.
- If it's been skewed by a phase, say a Halloween horror binge, cancel and keep yours. The effect fades as you keep rating.

Mac says
When in doubt, leave it and keep rating. I'll adjust quietly in the background. If you'd like your ratings to reshape things faster, there's a setting for that under Advanced in the Tuning Engine.
